Textile Fragment

Not on view

The design of this silk fragment consists of three rows, each containing three compartments. Pearl borders, floral motifs, palmettes and pendants predominate the ornamental repertory here. The center square is filled with four birds, each set within its own small circle. Silks with relatively simple color schemes like this one were probably purchased by local elites, who used smaller pieces to decorate their clothes.
