Ewer
Not on view
Intact large glass vessels from the medieval Islamic period are rare. If they also show little weathering, as in the case of this ewer, they represent an exceptional find. Its artistic appeal is greatly enhanced by the shape of its mouth and the applied decoration on its neck, which turn the object into a stylized birdlike figure. The decorative dark ring in the middle of its body, achieved with a pointed tool in an uncommon technique, makes it an extremely accomplished vessel.
