Medal: Tiberio Deciano

model 1549 (cast 16th century)
Not on view
On the obverse is a portrait of the lawyer Tiberio Deciani
(1509 – 1582) from Udine. The reverse depicts him kneeling
in front of a seated woman (Prudence?), offering her
a book. She is crowned with a laurel wreath by Justice,
holding a sword and a pair of scales, and by an unidentified
woman with a petasos staff. Deciani became professor
of law at Padua in 1549, which was the likely
occasion for commissioning this medal. This piece is a
worn, sixteenth-century cast.
