This painting, a fresco produced in oil on plaster, was uncovered during the restoration of Robert Lehman's townhouse at 7 West 54th street in New York. It depicts the head of the Virgin, a trompe l'oeil rendering by the artist Marcel Vertes of an Italian Renaissance painting by the Sienese master Taddeo di Bartolo (1362-1422) in Robert Lehman's collection (now 1975.1.18).
