Heraldic Panel of Barbara von Zimmern
This panel, along with its pair, acc. no. 30.113.6, commemorate the marriage in 1518 of Barbara von Zimmern and Wilhelm von Weitingen, both of well-established Swabian families. These works represent the last expression of the Middle Rhenish style of the late 15th century, characterized by a strength and painterliness reminiscent of panel painting. The inscription on the banner above Barbara can be translated: "God have mercy"; that on the banner above Wilhelm reads: "Mother of God, have mercy on me, Wilhelm von Weitingen."
