Fragments of a Wall Hanging with Figures in Elaborate Dress
Not on view
These fragments from a larger textile show rows of figures under arcades, probably personifications of the months presenting gifts. Most of the figures are depicted in fashions similar to the tunics on view in this gallery. The figure at the upper right and the three figures in the bottom row wear straight-sided woven-to-shape tunics with stripes (clavi) and roundels (orbiculi) at the shoulders and lower hem and a mantle draped over the shoulder. The two figures in the center of the upper row wear more elaborately decorated tunics covered by long mantles. At the left is a figure wearing a Sasanian-style flared dress. The man below wears skins and boots.
