Untitled (The Rhine)
Anselm Kiefer German
Not on view
In this large woodcut composition, Kiefer combined a wood-plank-printed frame, which draws on associations with German art history, and an image of Hitler’s unrealized Soldiers’ Hall, designed by Wilhelm Kreis. By means of the title, Kiefer relocated the huge Nazi building from central Berlin in Prussia to the banks of the Rhine.
