Consisting of groups of small, end-blown bamboo flutes, each with a different pitch and bound together to form a single instrument, panpipes occur predominantly in the southwest Pacific. They are made in two basic forms: raft panpipes, in which the canes are arranged side by side in a single or double row like logs on a raft, and bundle panpipes, in which the canes are bound in a circular cluster.
