Cobra head

New Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 117

Found in the debris associated with the tomb of Neferhotep the bowman, this head of a rearing cobra may, as per the suggestion of the excavator, have once adorned the forehead of an anthropoid coffin.
