Two Horses Beneath the Moon

Utagawa Hiroshige Japanese

Edo period (1615–1868)

Not on view

An exceedingly rare early impression of this print, featuring a moon rendered in reserve against a deep blue background, usually this composition, with the same poem, is known in impressions with shades of black and gray against a blank white background—also compelling, but with a totally different visual impact.
