Miguel Covarrubias Mexican
Not on view
These drawings, by Miguel Covarrubias, show two views of a headless ball player, an Olmec-style figurine head with an elaborate helmet, and a bowl on arm-like supports.
Miguel Covarrubias was a Mexican painter, caricaturist, ethnologist and art historian. His illustrated writings reflect his deep interest in and profound understanding of the life, customs, and culture of primitive peoples and have gained him recognition well beyond his native Mexico. To scholars in the field of Precolumbian art he is particularly known for his writings on the Olmec and early village cultures of central Mexico.
