Plate 41, Part of the Arcus Neroniani, a branch of the Claudian Aqueduct (or Aqua Claudia) built by Nero. In the background, the Lateran Palace (far left), the Lateran obelisk (left), and two hospitals (right). Below this plate is an unnumbered image titled "Partie des Acqueducs de Neron prés la Porte Majeure." This is one of only a few examples in the volume where the two half-page images relate to the same Roman monument (the majority of unnumbered bottom images depict ancient sculpture and bas-reliefs). The following plate 42 also relates to this aqueduct and faces page 71, the first of two pages of text describing the monument.
