Design House Vionnet S.p.A. Italian
Designer Hussein Chalayan British

Not on view

In an homage to the act of creation, Hussein Chalayan drew on design-room vocabulary for his first collection at the recently revived house of Vionnet. For this ensemble the designer has re-created the humble dot-and-cross patternmaking paper used by seamstresses. The jacket is made of carefully crafted textile segments printed à la disposition (to correspond with the shaping of the garment) and pieced with embroidered silk organza. The underdress, with a finely pleated bodice that expands into soft folds around the hem, conjures the timeless garments of Madeleine Vionnet, while still displaying the modernity and intellectual rigor of a Chalayan design.
