Archaic-style Vase (hu)

China

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 213

Ming dynasty archaistic bronzes not only faithfully followed archaic styles but also explored new artistic and technical directions. This vase is clearly indebted to ancient prototypes; its extensive geometric patterns of gold and silver inlays recall ancient models.
