Arthur E. Baggs American

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774

This bowl, made by Arthur Baggs during his time as a student at Alfred University, demonstrates his early work as a potter, giving visual clues as to his working methods as a potter. Notably this is the earliest known dated work signed by Baggs, establishing a timeframe for when Baggs started throwing on the wheel, as well as his understanding of and interest in glazes.
