Plate

This redware slip-decorated plate is an example of the St. Asaph’s tradition in Alamance, North Carolina. The pottery industry in Alamance originated from German immigrant families who brought their pottery traditions to the United States in the mid-eighteenth century. The Albright and Loy families, large families descended from German immigrants, frequently used the playful, polychrome lunettes and imbricated triangles which decorate this plate, possibly indicating that the plate is their work.
