Calligraphic manuscript of the Christmas liturgy and music, text in Latin.

Executed by Baudouin, calligrapher of the royal chapel at Versailles for Bernard René Jourdan de Launay. The work was bound for De Launay, whose coat of arms it bears. Governor of the Bastille (1776-1789), De Launay was massacred by the populace during the storming of the prison at the beginning of the French Revolution.

Title, alternate capital letters and page rulings are rubricated. Binding is of the period, in red morocco with gilding on the covers and spine. The book block has gilt edges. Each cover bears a coat of arms in the center, with armorial motifs in the corners and on the spine.
