Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This plate contains four textile designs with stylized flowers and leaves. The first design is made up of scrolling branches with stylized, scrolling leaves and semi-abstract flowers. The second is made up of interlacing branches with thin, long, semi-abstract scrolling leaves and bundles with the same kinds of leaves and small, semi-abstract flowers. The third design is made up of short branches, bundles of large stylized flowers with thin branch offsets and small, round flower buds, and spider webs with small, semi-abstract insects trapped on them. The last design is made up of interlacing branches with semi-abstract flowers and leaves, on which are perched stylized peacocks with their tails closed. All the designs are executed with black ink over clear grounds, some of the motifs rendered with black stipples. They were likely used as textile designs for garments or furniture, or as wallpaper designs.
