Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This plate contains a design for a shawl with three large palmettes made up of elongated paisley leaves, the upper ones scrolling to form heart shapes around the pistils of an exotic flower, made up of paisley-shaped petaloids and leaves decorated with small, semi-abstract orientalist flowers, separated by thinner palmettes made up of leaves with thin branches with semi-abstract leaves. According to the inscription, the design was created after a Kashmir shawl exhibited at the "Exposition de l'Industrie" of 1844. The design is executed with black ink on thin, light brown paper, but it would have likely been printed with lively colors on the manufactured textile.
