Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This page consists of five textile (?) designs with striped and checked patterns featuring bundles and garlands of flowers and leaves. The first design consists of alternating vertical stripes made up of thin, undulating garlands with small, stylized flowers and leaves, framed between two thin, vertical, intermittent stripes, and thicker stripes made up of diagonal, black stripes over a white background with thin, white, diagonal stripes and thin, white and black vertical stripes, on a black ground. The second design is made up of vertical stripes rendered with thinner, black and white stripes, containing strips of scallop-edged circles with a vertical stripe with crosshatches in the center, flanked by scales and eyes, separated by interlacing garlands of semi-abstract flowers, formind loops that enclose horizontal stripes with diagonal lines, flanked above and below by scales. The third design is made up of strips of roundels rendered with thin, black and white stripes, containing white rings with black dots, and thin bundles of stylized flowers and leaves. The fourth design consists of a checked pattern made up of groups of three horizontal lines and alternating pairs of vertical stripes and thick stripes, colored with black, and the intersections colored with white, over a white ground with thin, black, vertical lines. The thicker vertical lines contain lozenges made up of striped pearls linked by thin, black lines, surrounded by white outlines. The fifth design is made up of vertical stripes of checks, executed with white stripes with thin, black, vertical or horizontal lines, separated by thin, undulating garlands with semi-abstract flowers and leaves, over a black ground. The designs are executed with black ink on thin, light brown paper, and were likely created to be used in printed textiles or wallpapers; the final designs would have likely been executed with lively colors.
