Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This page consists of six textile (?) designs with thin garlands of flowers and leaves. The first design consists of alternating vertical stripes made up of undulating branches with stylized leaves, executed with white over black ground, and interlacing branches with stylized leaves, some executed with white, other rendered with black stipples over a white ground, over a background with thin, black and white stripes, separated by thin, vertical stripes with alternating black and white horizontal lines. The second design is made up of scrolling branches with leaves, executed with white and thin, black stripes, on a black ground. The third design is made up of thin, interlacing branches with elongated, scrolling leaves, colored with white and outlined with thin, black dashes, on a black background with vertical stripes with garlands of leaves, colored with white and filled with small rosettes flanked by leaves, over thin, black and white, vertical stripes. The fourth design is made up of alternating vertical garlands of white scrolling branches and thicker vertical garlands with interlacing branches and small, semi-abstract flowers and leaves, rendered with white and thin, diagonal, black lines. The fifth design is made up of alternating vertical stripes made up of thin, undulating garlands with stylized flowers and leaves, executed with black and thin, black vertical stripes over a white ground, and undulating branches with short branch offsets and pairs of semi-abstract rosettes, executed with white and thin, black vertical stripes over a black ground, framed by two thin, white vertical stripes with small, black lozenges, separated by thin, black vertical stripes. The final design is made up of alternating black vertical stripes with white oval rings and white vertical stripes with black rosettes and leaves, with thin, offsetting thorns, framed by strips of thin, black, diagonal dashes. The designs are executed with black ink on thin, light brown paper, and were likely created to be used in printed textiles or wallpapers; the final designs would have likely been executed with lively colors.
