Ode to Yuhuatai

Fu Baoshi Chinese

Not on view

Yuhuatai, or the Raining Flowers Terrace, in Nanjing was once a Nationalist execution ground where many Communist Party members and soldiers were killed. After liberation it became a park commemorating those martyrs. This revolutionary site in Fu’s home city inspired him to express local interests and experiences, which in turn reinforced the regionalism of Chinese painting in the late 1950s.
