Not on view

Wolf's wood engraving is based on Whistler's portrait of the Scottish philosopher and historian Thomas Carlyle, who is shown seated in a chair facing left, with two framed works on the wall next to him (ca. 1872–73, Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, Glasgow). Whistler's butterfly emblem appears on the wall behind the sitter.
