The Murray Hill Theatre opened in 1896 on Lexington Avenue and East 42nd Street, constructed on land owned by the Goelet Estate. It presented plays and musical concerts until taken over by William Morris who converted it to vaudeville then sold to Marcus Loew in 1909. Renamed Loews 42nd Street, the building survived until 1950.
