This type of print known as ‘auca’ in Catalan and ‘aleluya’ in Spanish represent satirical broadsides that are precursors to the modern day comic. These prints were used for different purposes. Some served as the basis for games and as a memory device whereas others were used for storytelling and had a didactic element. The publisher Ildefonso Mompié was a printer and bookseller based in Valencia. The address along the bottom of one of the prints is very specific, so that potential customers would know exactly where they could acquire other impressions or similar prints.
