Acrobat

Alfredo Zalce Mexican

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 690

Linocut was Zalce’s preferred medium for it allowed him to create direct and bold compositions with relative ease. In this, one of his most spectacular prints, an acrobat is shown upside down, balancing on one hand before a seated audience. It is printed in several colors that accentuate the different parts of the acrobat’s body. The un-inked areas of her face, left leg, and hands make them stand out in dramatic relief.
