Part of the Chateau de Mostuéjouls
Lancelot Théodore Turpin de Crissé French
Not on view
This detailed drawing shows a partial view of the Chateau de Mostuéjouls in the region of the Midi-Pyrénées in the south of France. The rendering of different qualities of light—the dappled shadows in the foreground and bright sun on the hillside and tower—suggest the influence in Romanticism on the artist who otherwise took a classical approach to his picturesque landscape compositions.1830, the year inscribed on this sheet, marked a return to painting for Turpin de Crissé following the July Revolution when he resigned from the administrative roles he had occupied during the Restoration.
