Man's Ensemble
Not on view
This type of jacket and ensemble is sometimes referred to as Spahi or Zouave, referencing the cavalry regiments of the French army in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia who wore a similar style of uniform, which actually originated in Ottoman Turkey. Eventually this style of clothing trickled into mainstream North African fashion and was worn by the upper classes. The present ensemble includes a djellaba, slippers, a jacket, a vest, and wide, loose trousers.
