Es probable que esta tetera monumental y su pedestal fueran hechos para celebrar la boda, en 1724, de George Bowes de Streatham Castle con la acaudalada heredera Eleanor Verney. Era un regalo muy costoso, ya que el trípode con patas ondulantes que soporta la mesa es de plata maciza. Asombra que la pieza haya sobrevivido, pues la mayoría de los enseres de plata del periodo se fundieron para recuperar el metal. El conjunto se distingue por la elegancia de sus formas barrocas, su fundición precisa y fino grabado. El orfebre Simon Pantin fue uno de los muchos artesanos franceses de origen protestante que se establecieron en Londres.
