Retrato de Aman-Jean

El estudio del artista Edmond François Aman-Jean (1860–1936), realizado por su amigo Seurat, es uno de los retratos dibujados más importantes del siglo XIX. Aman-Jean y Seurat estudiaron arte juntos en París, donde compartieron un estudio en 1879. El dibujo se expuso en el Salón de París de 1883 y fue la primera obra que exhibió en público el joven artista, por entonces de veintitrés años. La técnica emblemática de Seurat, su uso del lápiz Conté sobre papel texturado, dota a la obra de luminosidad y armonía tonal; la postura clásicamente equilibrada del modelo visto de perfil le imparte un aire de intemporalidad.
