This ink sketch is probably a design for an advertisement. Images of women drinking tea or hot chocolate in public restaurants appear elsewhere in the Large Boston Public Garden Sketchbook. Here Prendergast translates costume in effortless touches of black ink brushwork, affecting an image altogether different from the transparent colors usually deployed.
