Cabeza de Arsinoe II

Esta cabeza, parte de una estatua de tamaño mitad del natural, ha sido identificada como una imagen de Arsinoe II, hermana y esposa del rey Ptolomeo II (284–246 a. C.), por sus muchas similitudes con una estatua en el Vaticano que tiene una inscripción identificativa. Un detalle de esta estatua nos hace creer que es posterior al periodo de ocho años durante el cual Arsinoe ostentó el título de reina de Egipto: en la cabeza tiene una protuberancia que servía para sujetar una corona, cuya posición y probable forma indican que esta era la imagen de una diosa, es decir la Arsinoe deificada—y por lo tanto difunta—bajo la apariencia de la diosa Isis-Hathor. El estilo puramente egipcio evidencia que los ptolomeos, reyes de origen greco-macedonio, pretendían presentarse como los herederos de los faraones.
