This print represents a sculpture commissioned by Francis Graham Moon, Lord Mayor of London, as a gift to the Corporation of the City. Executed in Carrara marble, Durham's work was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1856, then placed it in the Guildhall Council Chamber. Victoria's diamond circlet, adorned with alternating fleurs-de-lys and crosses patée, had been made for Queen Adelaide, the wife of William IV. A rose adorns her lace-collared gown, and a loose mantle partly obscures her sash and Garter star. In the published state, text below the image identifed both the engraver and the sculptor.
