The Met x Wikipedia Virtual Edit Meet-up: Afrofuturism and “Before Yesterday We Could Fly”

Free

As part of Black History Month, join The Met and Wikipedia online for a virtual, livestreamed edit session to help build global information about Afrofuturism and the Museum’s exhibition Before Yesterday We Could Fly: An Afrofuturist Period Room.

The Met + Wikipedia team is partnering with AfroCROWD and Black Lunch Table to increase awareness and expand knowledge about the objects and artists included in the Afrofuturist period room. Wikipedians and the public are all invited to participate, no experience necessary.

This workshop will introduce attendees to the concepts and techniques of editing, the importance of including exhibition artists, objects, and themes across Wikipedia platforms, as well as training on adding content to Wikidata. Curators of the exhibition will also be joining us to speak about their work organizing the show.

Afterwards, the team will be available for an additional hour to answer questions and provide guidance on a chat channel supported by Wikimedia New York City throughout February.
