Water is all around The Met—in its iconic Plaza fountains, the water features that dot the galleries, and even beneath the Museum, where a network of natural springs flows alongside the Old Croton Aqueduct, the waterway that allowed New York to flourish. In Hydro Parade, artist, choreographer, and dancer Madeline Hollander takes inspiration from The Met's many water sources, staging a durational performance that travels a meditative, rhythmic journey around the Museum's water features. With a continuous stream of movement that flows between the galleries, Hollander connects the ancient waterways that lurk below the Museum to the buzzing activity within its walls.

Hydro Parade is inspired by the following water features at The Met: David H. Koch Plaza Fountains, The Temple of Dendur Reflecting Pool (Gallery 131), Chinese Courtyard in the Style of the Ming Dynasty (Gallery 217—The Astor Chinese Garden Court), Isamu Noguchi's Water Stone (Gallery 229—Japanese Art), Frederick William MacMonnies' Boy and Duck Fountain (Gallery 700—The Charles Engelhard Court), Janet Scudder's Frog Fountain (Gallery 700—The Charles Engelhard Court), The Fountain at The Robert Lehman Court (Gallery 963), Black marble fountain (Gallery 162—Roman Sculpture Court), Fountain at the Moroccan Court (Gallery 456—The Patti Cadby Birch Court), Ataba fountain (Gallery 461—The Damascus Room)
