Radical Dance For The People: Martha Graham Dance Company

Free with Museum admission

Saturday, October 7 | Tuesday, October 10 (see below for complete schedule)
Various galleries throughout The Met Fifth Avenue

Few dance companies have revolutionized the art quite like Martha Graham's. From the company's founding in 1926, Graham's signature style has remained a "cornerstone" (Time) of American modern dance, and continues to be taught worldwide. Now, in conjunction with the exhibition Art for the Millions: American Culture and Politics in the 1930s, dancers from the Martha Graham Dance Company stage some of Graham’s most powerful '30s solos in galleries throughout The Met.

Works to include Lamentation (1930), Satyric Festival Song (1932), Ekstasis (1933), Spectre-1914 (1936), Immediate Tragedy (1937), and Deep Song (1937). See below for a complete schedule.

Free with Museum admission

Please note that these performances will take place within the galleries. There is no seating and visibility may be limited.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Art for the Millions: American Culture and Politics in the 1930s.

The exhibition is made possible by the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation and The Schiff Foundation.

A complete cycle of all six solos will be performed twice daily, in four galleries throughout the museum. Each solo varies in length from four to nine minutes. We invite visitors to view some or all of the performances as your schedule allows. It is not necessary to view all of the solos in any particular order to enjoy this experience.

Full cycles will occur on:

  • Saturday October 7 from approximately 2–4:30 pm and 5–7:30 pm.
  • Tuesday, October 10 from approximately 10:30 am–1 pm and 2:30–5 pm.
