Art, Music, Gossip: An Evening at the Salon

Free with Museum admission

Join our current fellows in the galleries for in-person talks, readings, musical performances, and other activations of The Met galleries.

Cassandre Balosso-Bardin, Chester Dale Interdisciplinary Fellow, Department of Musical Instruments
Anna Rigg, Jane and Morgan Whitney Fellow, Department of European Paintings

Two fellows join forces to reimagine an eighteenth-century French salon in the Museum's galleries. Hear readings of the prerevolutionary art world's juiciest gossip—including passages about artworks in these very rooms—whose anecdotes and witticisms will be accompanied by instrumental music from the Baroque era. Recreating the musical and verbal atmosphere of French salons, this gallery activation will transport you into a world of sharp criticism where nothing could be taken for granted—and everything was subject to ridicule.

Meet in Gallery 735 (Vanderlyn Panorama)

Free with Museum admission; registration is not required.

Join other fellows for in-person events on Friday, May 5, May 12, and May 19.
