Sister Moon Flower Basket (Hanaire)
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. The organic, sculptural baskets and sculptures of Nagakura Ken’ichi, an independent artist based in Shizuoka Prefecture, owe their appearance to a variety of traditions. Ken’ichi began his career as a textile craftsman, but he soon realized that he was more interested in three-dimensional works. After assisting his grandfather, a bamboo wholesaler, he started to experiment with compositions characterized by unusual textures, fine plaiting inspired by the graphic arts, and the inclusion of bamboo roots.
