Guide du Dessinateur de l'Industrie
Title page of book containing 185 leaves, 27 of which are folded, bound in green linen binding, with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés, tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." (Guide for the Industrial Designer: mixed, varied designs, with flowers, ornaments, etc ... volume intended for makers and designers of laces... and Printed Papers...), most of them printed by Georges Schlatter in Paris. Some plates contain inscriptions indicating the different issues of the publication, and most of them are also numbered with the plate numbers given by the publication, although these numbers are not bound in order. The plates in the book include lithographs with designs for laces by the Atelier de H. Mereau; aquatints with botanical prints executed by Lambert ainé after paintings by Henriette-Antoinette Vincent and lithographs with flowers after paintings by Jules Sette; 9 leaves of decorative paper with abstract designs in color; patterns for embroidered textiles by Séraphin; and lithographs with ornamental designs by [Stanislas Nicolas Théodore] Buffardin, Jules Dumas, Mme. Pointis, Blaisot, Herault, Bertsinger, Seraphin, and Vasselon, among others. Some of the designs, of Indian inspiration and with paisley leaves and other stylized exotic flowers, contain inscriptions that mention the "Exposition de l'Industrie" of 1844. The wide variety of designs in the collection reveal the encyclopedic quality of the "Guide du Dessinateur" for which they were intended.
