Vase et Palmettes d’après Bernard-Zan, Blondus (16e Siècle)
Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This plate contains a design for a vase, heavily decorated with scrolls, and scrolling acanthus leaves, stylized exotic flowers, and grotesques, in the 16th-century fashion, after the designs of Bernard-Zan Blondus, according to the inscription. The design is executed with thin lines in black ink over a thin, light brown paper. The vase was likely designed to be to be created by a goldsmith. Around the design are four additional ornamental designs: a circle, an oval, and two stylized leaves, all filled with scrolling acanthus leaves and stylized flowers on black grounds. The designs in this plate are likely to have been reproduced from an earlier plate containing the designs.
