Ornamental Designs with Palmettes and Scrolling Motifs
Page of book containing 185 leaves with a collection of lithographs, aquatints, engravings, and other media, with ornamental designs published by Fleury Chavant in Paris, part of the publication "Guide du Dessinateur de l'industrie: une macédoine de dessins variés , tels que fleurs, ornemens, etc. ... Ouvrage destiné aux fabricants et dessinateurs de soieries... et Papiers Peints..." This plate contains three ornamental designs, possibly for candelabra (?), containing different sorts of scrolling leaves and palmettes. The first design is bade up of scrolling acanthus leaves with scrolling offsetts holding rosettes on the bottom, followed by a row of scrolling leaves, flanked by two thin scrolling branches with stylized flowers, upon which stands a frame with offsetting spade-shaped leaves, containing a palmette, and flanked above by a series of three shuttle shapes, eaach containing a four-leaved rosette, and flanked to the sides by two scrolling leaves with hanging stylized flowers, the upper one flanked by two scrolling stylized acanthus leaves joined by a palmette. The second design consists of a strip of bundles of thin, scrolling branches with stylized leaves at the ends, and a stylized, cone-shaped flower in the center, standing on flat bases with offsetting leaves, which connect to the central flower of the motif below. The final design is made up of a large, stylized exotic flower on the bottom, framed by scrolling, stylized acanthus leaves and thinner scrolling branches with hanging inverted palmettes on the end; the pistils of the flower hold two vases, one on which stands a stylized fruit motif, framed by a heart shape formed by thin, scrolling branches, ending with rosettes. Above it are three more vase motifs, the upper one flanked by two thin, scrolling branches with small leaves, and with inverted stylized anthuria with strips of pearls as pistils hanging from them, and flanked above by a small, stylized exotic flower, holding a vase with a palmette made up of stylized, scrolling wheat ears, and by two cornucopias scrolling around it, each holding a cone-shaped vase with fruits.
