A North River Recreation Pier
Long known as "At the Ferry Slip," this picture was first exhibited as "A North River Recreation Pier" along with several other paintings of the subject at Myers' exhibition held at Macbeth Galleries, New York in 1908. The scene is set on a summer's night in New York where workers and families have come to the pier to seek relief from the heat and watch the passing ferries. The composition is highly decorative, reminiscent in its overall flatness and broad generalizations of a tapestry.
