William Conklin

ca. 1800
Not on view
According to the information supplied by the painting's donor, who was the granddaughter of the sitter, William Conklin sailed to China many times aboard J. J. Astor's ships. It is likely, then, that Conklin had this portrait of himself painted in China during one of his visits there.
