Questa coppa d’argento è un elegante esempio di abilità artigianale della Tracia, probabilmente eseguita nella regione dell’attuale Romania o Bulgaria. Lo stravagante stile decorativo con cui sono raffigurati gli animali, le cui corna terminano a forma di testa di uccello, era tipico delle popolazioni nomadi che nel corso del I millennio a.C. attraversarono le steppe della Russia meridionale dilagando attraverso l’Europa. Sebbene si possano notare alcune influenze stilistiche contemporanee di origine sciita e iraniana, l’iconografia di queste scene è indubbiamente tracia e si riferisce probabilmente a una leggenda o mito indigeno.
