Mrs. Grace Dalrymple Elliott (1754?-1823)

Mrs. Elliott era la moglie divorziata di un medico scozzese e inseparabile compagna di Lord Cholmondeley, in seguito il primo marchese di Cholmondeley, che forse commissionò questo ritratto. L’elaborata pettinatura con i capelli rialzati, imbottiti e incipriati, contribuisce a creare la notevole altezza della signora, che indossa un abito settecentesco alla moda di una gradazione di giallo prediletto dal pittore Sir Anthony van Dyck un secolo prima. Quest’opera venne esposta alla Royal Academy nel 1778.
