Plate with Geometric Design

late 17th century
Not on view
Named after Mount Shōdai, wares with iron and ashstraw glazes were made in Kumamoto Prefecture from the late seventeenth to the early twentieth century, largely for local use. As part of the mingei, or folk art movement, this tradition was revived in 1973 and eight workshops currently continue the work.
