Electric pianos employ hammers that strike metal reeds, creating fluctuations in a pickup’s electromagnetic field that are then amplified. Ian McLagan, a keyboard player, member of the band Faces, and prominent session musician, used this electric piano on many recordings, including the 1978 Rolling Stones album Some Girls—most notably on the song "Miss You."
