戸棚
17世紀ニューイングランドの家庭では、織物や銀器などの貴重品をオーク材の大型戸棚に収納しました。それは当時の家庭が所有した最も手の込んだ家具であり、その大きさと豊かな装飾が所有者の成功と社会的地位を物語る重要な財産でした。この傑作は、精巧で多様な形態のオーク材の箪笥と戸棚を評価されながらも、その名が残されていない家具工房が制作したものです。せんさく旋盤で切削し黒く着色したカエデ材の部分は、古典様式の造形を自由に解釈したものであり、溝彫りされた引き出しの前面は打ち出し突起がリズミカルな模様を作り出しています。
