背面にヴェルサイユ宮殿の焼印が2箇所押されているこのコモード(整理ダンス)は、フランス国王ルイ16世私邸の調度品として1792年の目録に記載されています。18世紀ヨーロッパの代表的な家具職人であるレントゲンは、多くのドイツ皇太子、マリー・アントワネット、女帝キャサリンなど、各国の王室向けに斬新なデザインと趣向を凝らした仕掛けのある調度品を製作しました。前面の3つの寄木細工の場面は劇の舞台を表しており、中央にはイタリアの喜劇座の人物が描かれています。
