Carimbada duas vezes na parte posterior com a marca do palácio de Versalhes, esta cômoda à vantaux (cômoda com duas portas e gavetas interiores) faz parte do inventário de 1792 dos apartamentos privados de Louis XVI. Roentgen, o marceneiro europeu mais importante do século XVIII—que serviu uma clientela internacional, incluindo vários príncipes alemães, Maria Antonieta e Catarina, a Grande—criou mobiliários inovadores com dispositivos mecânicos inteligentes.
